Aberdeen playmaker James Maddison has revealed that his side's win at Rangers meant more than just three Scottish Premiership points because of the hype that had been created around it.

The Gers were on the receiving end of yet another disappointing result, losing to Aberdeen 2-1 away from home, piling yet more pressure on themselves in the process.

The result now means that Mark Warburton's team have been pushed down to seventh spot in the league table with nine points from seven matches.

The architect of it all, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder on loan from Norwich City, insists that his late strike has made him buzz with excitement.

According to Maddison, the result meant more than just three points for his team as the media attention in the build-up to the game had been huge. And now that the feat has been achieved it will be something they will have to relish.

"That's what you dream of in the build up to the game and obviously there was a lot of hype surrounding the game", Maddison was quoted as saying by STV.

"You go through scenarios in your head – well I do anyway – about scoring the winning goal late on and [for it to happen] like that, obviously I'm buzzing with it.

"It's just a great feeling to score the winner in such a massive game.

"At the end of the day it's only three points but it feels like a lot more than that just because of the hype and the press surrounding the game. I'm really delighted."
