Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on youngster Kieran Tierney, who he believes has been "absolutely brilliant" and is developing well at such an early stage of his career.

The young left-back covered a vast area of the pitch during Celtic's match against Kilmarnock last Saturday, going up to assist the attack and then tracking back to defend when needed.

Eventually, his side finished with a 6-1 scoreline in their favour and in spite of the one goal they conceded, the former Liverpool manager was overall impressed with what he saw from his young talent.

Highlighting the need for the player to learn more about playing without the ball, the manager said that the way he showed his aggression on the pitch, not allowing "super-quick" Nathan Tyson to show his pace, speaks at length about his ability and talent.

"Kieran’s an incredible talent. He can defend very well and he’s very aggressive", Rodgers told his club's official website.

"We were asking him to improve his movement without the ball. The modern-day top-level full-back can make runs with and without the ball.

"He is a great learner. He takes on board information very well. He defends forward and by that I mean he’s aggressive in his defending.

“The boy Tyson on the right-hand side was someone who played for me as a young player in my Reading youth teams so I know how super-quick he is, but you didn’t see that on Saturday as he was chasing Kieran all the way back.

"I thought Kieran was absolutely brilliant and he’s developing very well.”

The Celtic youth academy product has appeared in 14 matches for his team so far, having set up six goals for his team-mates.
