Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli is of the opinion that Vincent Janssen managed to effectively mask Harry Kane’s absence in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in a Premier League fixture at the weekend.

Kane, who has been Tottenham’s top scorer in the past two seasons, is currently out injured with an ankle injury which he suffered in the 1-0 win against Sunderland on 18th September.

As a result, summer signing Janssen started at the Riverside Stadium and put in an impressive display despite not finding the back of the net, with Heung-Min Son scoring both of Spurs’ goals.

And Alli, who admitted that Kane is an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team, however, was quick to add that he was impressed with Janssen’s performance against Boro.

"There is no hiding how good Harry is, he’s a great striker and a great goalscorer”, he told Spurs TV, when asked on the importance of his side winning without Kane.

“Vincent did really well, held the ball up, he’s so strong and a pleasure to play with, good to play off and a threat as well, credit to him."

Janssen, who joined Spurs from AZ Alkmaar on a four-year deal in the summer, provided the assist for Son’s first goal against Middlesbrough.

The Netherlands international has thus far scored once in eight appearances in all competitions for the north London club.
