Leeds United head coach Garry Monk feels Chris Wood’s form epitomises the hard work and the hard yards his squad are putting in behind the scenes to take the club forward.

Wood scored his fourth goal in as many games against Ipswich Town on Saturday to secure Leeds’ fourth win on the trot, and helped the club to move further up the Championship table.

Both Leeds and Wood were trying to shrug off lethargic form at the start of the season as the striker struggled to provide the energy up front to Monk’s team, but over the past couple of weeks their form has experienced a renaissance.

The New Zealander was energetic against the Blues on Saturday, continuously harrying the defenders and creating panic in their defence with his physical play, culminating in a goal from a towering header in the first half.

And Monk indicated Wood’s current form is the result of hard work and the application the player and the team are putting in during training, which is finally producing results on the pitch.

On Wood’s current form, the Leeds boss said in a press conference: “Yes, we work very hard behind the scenes, each player.

“We try and find obviously what their potential is, try and find that trigger that can trigger them, and that’s with all the players.

“And then you put it against them in training, and you make them go off at each other in training. When that comes on to the pitch, you put it to use against the opponents.

“At this moment, Chris epitomises what the team are doing, we are taking that step forward, we trying to put our best football on the pitch and the way of playing, the plan that we have.”

Wood has scored seven goals in eleven appearances for the west Yorkshire giants this season, and will be looking to carry on his form against Bristol City on Tuesday night.
