Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has lavished praise on young defender Kieran Tierney ahead of his 50th game for the Bhoys.

A product of the Celtic academy, the 19-year-old broke in to the first team last season, and quickly established himself as the club’s first choice left-back despite his tender years.

Tierney has continued to remain a regular starter this season under new manager Brendan Rodgers, and at only 19, played his 49th game for Celtic against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

He is expected to play his 50th game against Manchester City in the Champions League tomorrow, and Gordon feels that for such a young player it is a great achievement.

The Celtic goalkeeper admits that the second season is always the toughest for any young player, but he is pleased to see the way Tierney has handled the pressure of being a regular at Parkhead.

Gordon told Celtic TV: “Last season it was about getting in the team [for him].

“The second season is always the hardest for young players getting in the team, but especially in the last two or three games, he has been our best player.

“For him to do that, and continuing to do that for 49 games is a massive ask for a young player, but for him to be able to do that is a great achievement.

“He has a great attitude, and I am sure he will continue to improve to become a really great player.”

Tierney also made his debut for Scotland in March this year, and is expected to become an integral part of the national team in the coming years.
