Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has insisted that he has been working hard to feature in Brendan Rodgers’ plans going forward.

The 33-year-old Scot was Celtic’s first choice goalkeeper until earlier this summer, but under Brendan Rodgers he is fighting for a place in the team with Dorus de Vries.

Gordon started the season as the club’s number one goalkeeper, but was benched last month, and only returned to the team as a second half substitute against Kilmarnock on Saturday after De Vries suffered an injury.

The Scot admits that there is a fierce competition for the goalkeeping gloves at Celtic this season, but the experienced custodian is ready to fight his way back into Rodgers’ thinking.

He insisted that he has been putting in the hard yards in training to remain in Rodgers’ plans, and get a regular run of games this season.

Gordon told Celtic TV: “There is a lot of competition at the club.

“[We have got] four first team goalkeepers, and all of them are of a really good standard, so it is going to be tough, but it’s a good challenge; I am up for it.

“I have been training really hard over the last few weeks to try and make sure that I am in the manager’s plans to try and get a run in the team.”

Gordon has made 115 appearances for Celtic thus far, and has also earned 46 caps for Scotland.
