Napoli are set to relaunch their pursuit of Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian during the January transfer window, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

The 26-year-old defender has found himself out of favour at Old Trafford this season under new manager Jose Mourinho, and other than a Europa League appearance earlier this month, he has made the matchday squad just once this term.

Out of favour and struggling to even find a place on the bench, Darmian is expected to push for a move away from Manchester United in January if things don’t improve dramatically over the next couple of months.

And it has been claimed that Napoli are lying in wait to pounce on the Italy international should he decide to consider a transfer during the winter transfer window.

The Serie A giants were also interested in snapping up Darmian in the summer, but Mourinho was unwilling to lose a defender without getting a replacement in place.

Inter and Juventus are also keeping a close watch on proceedings at Old Trafford, but Napoli are the ones who are pushing the hardest at the moment for the Italian international.

The club are expected to slap in a loan offer for Darmian during the winter window, with an option to make the move permanent at a later date.

Darmian, who move to England from Torino last year, has a contract until 2019 with Manchester United.
