Sunderland are considering a loan move for former Liverpool midfielder Joao Teixeira during the January transfer window, according to Spanish magazine Don Balon.

The Portuguese midfielder moved to Porto this summer on a free transfer from Liverpool, but is yet to play a minute of football this season, despite making the matchday squad a few times.

Teixeira is expected to consider a move in January should the situation continue to remain the same in the next couple of months, and it seems he could return to England.

It has been claimed that David Moyes is considering snapping up the midfielder on loan during the winter transfer window as he looks to strengthen his Sunderland squad for the second half of the season.

Sunderland have made a horrendous start to the season, with many considering them favourites to go down at the end of the campaign, and Moyes is looking at the winter window to properly plug the holes in his squad.

A product of the Sporting Lisbon academy, Liverpool snapped up Teixeira in 2012, but other than spending loan stints at Brentford and Brighton, the midfielder made just eight senior appearances for Liverpool in the four years he was on the club’s books.

A return to England in January could give him the opportunity to play regular football, and also prove his former employers wrong.

He has a contract until 2020 with Porto.
