Rangers boss Mark Warburton has expressed his hope to see midfielder Josh Windass recover in time for his side's next league match against Partick Thistle.

Windass has featured just twice in seven league matches so far this season, remaining sidelined with a thigh injury. He recovered only to pick up yet another hamstring injury during the warm-up before the League Cup quarter-final against Queen of the South.

The manager though insists that the problem is related to nerve rather than muscle and the player is expected to make progress in the direction of a recovery during the next few days to be available for selection on Saturday.

“Josh Windass had more a neural [nerve] problem rather than a muscle problem so fingers crossed he will make good progress this week and be available for selection", Warburton told his club's official website.

22-year-old Matt Crooks, who made his debut for the club against Queen of the South in the League Cup after seven months out with an ankle injury, remains uncertain after not being risked the match against Aberdeen.

“Matt Crooks has some slight effusion on the knee [water on the knee] but he has trained well at the start of the week and looks in good shape.

“Matt is very keen now, he needs to get some match time and the worst thing we could do is try and hurry back a young player.”

The manager also took time to provide an update on yet another injury absentee, Jordan Rossiter, who has not played since 26th August.

“Jordan has a calf strain, he went away with England with a niggle and it got worse in training on international duty.

“Jordan is a superb professional and is desperate to play every game and it is a low grade strain but at the moment it is proving troublesome. Hopefully he is a couple of weeks away."
