Mesut Ozil has set down conditions to Arsenal ahead of signing a proposed contract extension with the club.

With little less than two years left on his contract with the club, Arsenal are desperate to tie him down to a new a long term deal, and have been in talks with the German’s advisers.

Ozil, who turns 28 next month, has in principle agreed to sign a two-year extension with the Gunners, and is happy to commit his long term future to the club.

It has been suggested that it is more than likely that Ozil will reach an agreement over a new deal with the club, but according to German magazine Sport Bild, the playmaker wants some guarantees from Arsenal.

The Germany international wants to wear the number ten shirt, the squad number assigned to Jack Wilshere who joined Bournemouth on loan this summer, as he is a big fan former Gunner Dennis Bergkamp, who wore the number during his time at Arsenal.

Ozil also wants guarantees from Arsenal about the club’s ambition as he is keen to see them sign top players and win the Premier League, a personal ambition.

If talks go according to plan, the German is expected to sign a new contract worth £200,000 per week, which would make him Arsenal’s highest paid player ever.

Joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013, Ozil has netted 22 times and has assisted 43 goals in all competitions for the club.
