Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has highlighted the importance of his side registering their first win in this season’s Champions League by edging out CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.

Spurs, who returned to the Champions League for the first time since the 2010/11 campaign, lost 2-1 to Monaco in their opening group stage game earlier in the month.

With the victory in Russia, the north London outfit opened their account in the Champions League and also extended their winning run to four games in all competitions.

And Pochettino explained that it was vital for Spurs to win their first game in the continental competition as his side will now feel a lot more comfortable in their remaining group stage games.

“Today was our first victory in the Champions League”, he told Spurs TV.
