Liverpool owner John W Henry has hinted that potential protests against ticket prices could lead to the club not undertaking the next stage of their redevelopment of Anfield.

The Merseyside giants recently completed a new Main Stand, taking the total capacity of the ground to 54,000. Henry's Fenway Sports Group opted against building a new stadium for the club and instead looked at Anfield redevelopment.

Next on the list for expansion is the club's Anfield Road stand, but given protests by supporters against ticket prices, which saw rises reversed earlier this year after a walkout in the 77th minute of a game, Liverpool may not go ahead, Henry has hinted.

"I don't know if there is a next step because ticket prices are an issue in England", Henry was quoted as saying by the Associated Press, when asked about further Anfield expansion.

"That may foreclose further expansion. We'll have to see", the American businessman added.

Liverpool have been enjoying increased attendances since opening their new Main Stand, but may well have to settle for a 54,000 capacity Anfield if Fenway Sports Group do not feel they can recoup the cost of further expansion through ticket sales.

The American sports group took control of Liverpool in 2010 and are on to their fourth manager in Jurgen Klopp, having previously employed Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers.
