Former Rangers striker Michael Mols believes that it is still too soon to expect that the Gers can challenge for the Scottish Premiership title.

The Glasgow-based side's first season back at the top level since 2012 hasn't started on a fruitful note, with the side being placed seventh in the league table.

Rangers have brought in a whole host of new players this term and Mols, who played for the Gers between 1999 and 2004, believes that it takes time for a new team to gel properly.

The jump from the Championship to the Premiership is also something to consider for Mols and the former striker feels that in spite of everybody expecting the side to challenge for the title, the need for the team will be to keep their patience and wait for the good times to come.

“It takes time for a team to gel and it’s a big step up from the Championship to Premiership and expectations are a little bit too high in my opinion", Mols told Rangers' official website.

“Everybody expects Rangers to challenge for the title already, but for me personally I think it is too soon.

“For the opponents they are playing Rangers so they are already fired up and giving everything so the team need time to adapt."

Rangers are currently winless in their last four league matches and will host Partick Thistle at Ibrox this Saturday.
