Laurent Koscielny is pleased with his central defensive partnership with Shkodran Mustafi, but insists he needs more time to get accustomed to playing alongside the summer signing.

The Gunners, who beat FC Basel 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night, snapped up Mustafi from Valencia towards the end of the summer transfer window.

The Germany international has thus far made five appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, helping his new employers to keep two clean sheets.

And Koscielny, who underlined the importance of constantly communicating with Mustafi during a game, thinks it will take some time before they get to know each other fully.

“We kept another clean sheet, so it is very good”, the Frenchman told Arsenal Player.

“[Mustafi and I] need time to know each other well and it is very important to communicate well.

“We did a good job because the whole team defended well and when we play like this, with all the players helping their team-mates, it is easier for us at the back.”

Arsenal, who are currently atop their group in the Champions League with four points from two outings, will next face Burnley in an away Premier League fixture on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s team are currently third in the Premier League with 13 points from six games, five behind leaders Manchester City.
