Rangers boss Mark Warburton expects his team to live up to the view he held in the summer, that they would be "highly competitive" in the Scottish Premiership.

Warburton brought in a whole host of fresh faces during the summer transfer window, though some raised eyebrows, not least 37-year-old defender Clint Hill, while another arrival, Joey Barton, is currently serving a three-week club suspension.

Results on the pitch have been poor, with Rangers not having won any of their last four Scottish Premiership games to slump to seventh in the table, below even Ross County, St Johnstone and Motherwell.

Warburton though is confident that he has a squad that will compete in the Scottish top flight.

"What I said at the start of the campaign was that we will be highly competitive this season and that won't change", the Rangers boss told a press conference.

And Warburton thinks that was clearly in evidence in Rangers' 2-1 defeat away at Aberdeen on Sunday.

"We were competitive on Sunday.

"But what we have to do is to turn our domination of the football into the right rewards", he added.

Next up for Rangers is a visit from bottom side Partick Thistle and anything less than a comprehensive win at Ibrox may see more questions asked over whether Warburton is the man to lead the Gers towards genuinely challenging Celtic.
