Brendan Rodgers feels Celtic deserved to win, following their 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Hoops, who were thrashed 7-0 by Barcelona in their opening Group C game earlier in the month, opened the scoring through Moussa Dembele in the third minute before Fernandinho equalised for the Citizens eight minutes later.

Raheem Sterling then put the ball in the back of his own net in the 20th minute, but the former Liverpool winger atoned his mistake by making it 2-2 in the 28th minute at Paradise.

Dembele then scored his second and put Celtic ahead again in the game two minutes into the second half, with Nolito equalising for the visitors for the third time in the 55th minute to round off the scoring for the night.

And Rodgers, who was extremely pleased with Celtic getting a point against Manchester City, however, thinks his side should have won the contest.

“I don’t want to put a negative on it because it was such a positive night but, of course, the second and third goal [they scored] can be better”, the manager told the club’s official site.

“We will improve on that but this is a team that, throughout Europe, everyone has talked about and rightly so because they are top-class with a top-class manager.

“He’s coached them really well, but it’s arguable that our players, the way they pressed the game, the mistakes they forced City to play, was really a great credit to my team.

“I think the support was absolutely amazing and the combination of the players’ performance and the atmosphere made it a real difficult night for Manchester City.

“So I’m very pleased we got something from the game. Naturally I felt we should have won the game but it’s a good step forward for us.”

Celtic, who are currently four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a game in hand, will next play Dundee on Saturday.
