Kieran Tierney has explained that he was delighted to mark his 50th appearance for Celtic by putting in an impressive performance in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old is a product of Celtic’s youth system and made his senior competitive debut for the club in April 2015.

Tierney was a constant threat for Manchester City at Celtic Park and thought he put his side 2-1 up in the 20th minute when his strike deflected off Raheem Sterling and went in.

Although it was later credited as an own-goal, Tierney, who insisted that it is a big achievement for a teenager to play 50 games for Celtic, jokingly stated that he is still going to claim that goal.

“That’s an achievement for me and obviously I’m delighted, for a 19-year-old it’s brilliant”, he told Celtic TV, when asked how he felt playing his 50th game for the club.

“It’s special for me and my family. Obviously I’m claiming the goal [laughs].

“A 100 per cent [I am claiming it], I’ve celebrated like it’s mine as well, so I’m taking it.”

Tierney, whose present contract with Celtic runs until 2021, has thus far scored once and set up 15 goals for the Bhoys.

He also has a senior cap for Scotland to his name.
