Arsene Wenger feels although it is too early to say if Arsenal can win the Champions League this season, his side certainly possess the potential to go all the way in the continental competition.

The Gunners, who are yet to win the Champions League, beat FC Basel 2-0 on Wednesday night to go atop Group A.

A first half brace from Theo Walcott at the Emirates Stadium handed Arsenal their first win the Champions League this season, with the north London outfit drawing 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in their first group stage game earlier in the month.

And Wenger, whose side are now unbeaten in their last eight outings in all competitions, winning six of those, thinks Arsenal have the potential to win the Champions League, with the Frenchman going on to add that the Gunners are ambitious.

“It’s way too early. Much too early”, Wenger said in his post-match press conference, when asked about winning the Champions League.

On being asked further if Arsenal are close to it, he said: “It looks like the team has interesting potential. We have to be ambitious and, as you know, keep our feet on the ground to continue to develop.

“We know exactly how we want to play football and we have to continue to stick to that and get better at it.

"That demands big focus and some leadership inside the squad.

"It also requires humility.”

Arsenal, who are third in the Premier League, will next face Burnley in an away league game on Sunday.
