Rangers midfielder Josh Windass feels that Newcastle United fans were wrong to want Alan Pardew out as manager.

Pardew was in charge of the Magpies from 2010 until 2014, before joining Crystal Palace after opting to leave St James' Park for Selhurst Park.

A large section of Newcastle fans had turned against Pardew and were pleased to see the former West Ham United boss move on.

And Windass, who watched Pardew interviewed on Sky Sports' Friday Night Football, cannot understand why Magpies fans wanted to see the back of the tactician, someone he rates highly.

The Rangers midfielder wrote on Twitter: "Great interview by Pardew here….crazy that Newcastle fans wanted him out.

"Good manager in my book."

Pardew guided Crystal Palace to a finish of tenth in the Premier League in the 2014/15 campaign.

Last season under Pardew, the Eagles finished in 15th spot, while Newcastle suffered relegation after the late appointment of Rafael Benitez was not enough to spark a recovery.

Palace did however reach the FA Cup final, where they were edged out by Manchester United.
