Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has bemoaned Dimitri Payet's moment of brilliance, which undid his side's defence at the London Stadium and secured West Ham a 1-1 draw.

Both sides huffed and puffed in the first 45 minutes, leaving fans having to wait until the second half for the first goal of the afternoon.

It came for the visitors, with Boro's Christian Stuani heading in a cross from team-mate Viktor Fischer to leave West Ham reeling and fearing another home defeat.

But just six minutes later, in the 57th minute, West Ham were back level as Payet produced a moment of brilliance at the London Stadium.

The France international picked up the ball on the left hand side and proceeded to weave his way across the goal, going past four Boro defenders before guiding a shot into the back of the net

And with no further goals arriving in the match, Payet's moment of magic proved to be enough to secure a point for Slaven Bilic's men.

It also frustrated Karanka, although he was in no mood to blame his defence.

It was difficult to stop", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"The quality of players like him was always going to be the difference."

Overall though, the former Real Madrid assistant is pleased to take a point from his side's trip to the capital.

"It is a good point, especially after three defeats.

"It is important that our attitude has been good. West Ham have not been in the best moment, but they have amazing players. So I'm pleased to add one more point and play with that intensity", he added.
