West Ham United defender Sam Byram has insisted that he is used to playing under pressure, owing to his spell at Leeds United.

The Hammers, who snapped up the defender from the Whites on a four-and-a-half-year deal in January, have endured a disastrous start to their 2016/17 campaign.

West Ham have thus far managed to win just one Premier League game this season and presently find themselves 18th in the table with just three points from six games.

And Byram, whose side will next face Middlesbrough today, explained that he is experienced enough to deal with the current situation at West Ham as he faced a number of challenges during his time at Elland Road.

“You hear it a lot with players who go to Leeds and struggle to cope with the pressure”, he told the club’s official site.

“But I played there for three seasons and enjoyed my time there and got used to that pressure.

"It is something you have to take in your stride and you have to deal with it.

“It is something that has helped me massively with the big move to West Ham and being able to play in front of a bigger crowd who have high expectations for the season.

“This is a massive chance for us to turn things around. We have been working on things during the week and will take that into the game.

“From seeing the week of training we have had I can say the lads have the hunger to get the win and there is no doubt there will be 100 per cent effort at the weekend.”

Byram, who progressed through Leeds’ youth system before making his first team debut for the club in August 2012, turned out 143 times for the Yorkshire giants.

The 23-year-old right-back has thus far made 12 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, with eight of those coming in the present campaign.
