Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has stressed the importance of the work being carried out by the coaches in the club’s academy.

Barring a Champions League defeat to Monaco, Spurs have started the season in positive fashion and are currently second in the league table behind Manchester City.

With a new stadium on the horizon, and European football becoming regular for Spurs, Pochettino admits that the club are aiming to become one of the biggest in the world in the near future.

Apart from signing players to help the club move forward, the Tottenham boss also underlined the importance of their ‘unbelievable’ academy for Spurs’ future, and the need to bring in players from the academy to the first team as part of their philosophy

The Argentine said in a press conference: “Our ambition is to be one of the biggest clubs in the world but for that you need time and a process.

“I think that balance is the most important thing in football.

"We have an unbelievable academy, people who work very hard to try to provide the first team with very good players and then we need to bring in players who can settle quickly into our philosophy.

"That is very important.

“It’s a process where we are working very hard now to set the principles to arrive in the new stadium and try to show how big our club is.”

Tottenham are currently preparing for a top-of-the-table clash against Premier League leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
