Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson feels Arsenal must consult Arsene Wenger on who follows in his footsteps as manager.

Wenger has now completed 20 years at Arsenal, but the Frenchman's contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season and he has been tipped as the potential new England manager.

It remains to be seen when Wenger will finally decide to call time on his lengthy reign at Arsenal, but when he does Lawrenson feels the Gunners board need to ask the Frenchman about who he sees following in his footsteps.

He said on the BBC's Match of the Day Extra: "Arsene Wenger has had to contend with Chelsea and all their money during a lot of his time in charge.

"Wenger is up there on a pedestal for me. He's built the club and took it forward", he explained.

"Goodness only knows who will replace him.

"And why wouldn't you want to pick his brains on the next manager to come in?"

Various managers have been mooted as possibilities to replace Wenger when he finally leaves Arsenal.

Currently Bournemouth's Eddie Howe leads the betting, ahead of Germany coach Joachim Low.

Ex-Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, current Everton boss Ronald Koeman, Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, are all also in the betting.
