Everton target Rachid Ghezzal is close to signing a new contract at Lyon, ending a standoff with the French giants.

Ronald Koeman's Toffees made a serious play for Ghezzal in the summer transfer window and are thought to have been willing to pay the winger a whopping €400,000 per month.

But Ghezzal, whose current deal with Lyon is due to expire next summer, knocked back Everton and chose to stay with Les Gones.

Lyon had frozen Ghezzal out of the first team picture at the start of the campaign, telling the winger he must sign a new deal first, but he was in action for the club this weekend when turning out in a 2-0 win over rivals Saint-Etienne.

Now, according to French sports daily L'Equipe, Ghezzal is close to signing a new three-year deal, to keep him at the club and end any speculation he may be leaving in the winter window, when Everton could have rekindled their interest.
