Former Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn believes Derby County's decision to allow striker Chris Martin to join Fulham in the summer transfer window was a "catastrophe".

Martin headed to Craven Cottage on a season-long loan deal before the summer window shut, with Fulham paying a substantial loan fee for the 27-year-old, while they also have an option to keep him on a permanent basis should he impress.

The hitman had top scored for Derby for the past three seasons and without his services the Rams currently sit 20th in the Championship standings.

Former Leeds boss Redfearn, who has backed the Whites to take something from their trip to Derby after the international break, feels the Rams made a big mistake in allowing Martin to leave.

Redfearn said on Radio Yorkshire: "Derby, without Martin, for me that was the catastrophe when they sold him.
