The agent of Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian admits that his client could look at his options in January if he continues to remain on the fringes at Old Trafford this season.

The Italian, who joined Manchester United from Torino last year, has struggled for relevance under new manager Jose Mourinho, and has only made a solitary appearance this season.

Darmian has even struggled to get into the first team squad and there have been suggestions that he could be looking to leave Old Trafford in January to return to Italy.

Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus have all been linked with a January move for the player and his agent, Fausto Pari, admits that Serie A clubs are interested in the full-back.

And he added if things don’t improve by January, Darmian could look for other options in order to protect his international career with Italy.

Pari told Italian radio station Radio Crc: "We have to understand what the leaders [at Manchester United] want.

"Some Italian clubs have tried to take him, but Manchester United shut the door straight away.

"Under Jose Mourinho he’s playing little or not at all, which is a shame.

"If the situation doesn’t change we’ll have to think of something in January, he risks losing [his place in] the national team too."

Darmian has a contract until 2019 with the club and has clocked up 40 appearances for Manchester United thus far.
