Celtic captain Scott Brown believes his side's main challenge for the Scottish Premiership title will come from Aberdeen and Hearts, with the midfielder not mentioning Rangers as a serious threat.

The Hoops, who are aiming for their sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, are currently four points clear with a game in hand after a bright start to the campaign.

Aberdeen and Hearts occupy second and third positions in the league respectively, while Rangers find themselves in fifth spot; Rangers have played Aberdeen and lost, while Hearts will travel to Ibrox in December.

The Gers, who were thrashed 5-1 by Celtic in the season’s first Old Firm derby in September, had been looking to challenge their fierce rivals at the top of the table.

And Brown aimed a cheeky dig at Rangers by not mentioning Mark Warburton's men as Celtic’s title rivals alongside Aberdeen and Hearts.

"There's still a long way to go”, he was quoted as saying by STV, when told Kenny Dalglish had said that Celtic may as well be handed the title now, following their superb start to the season.

"It's very nice of Kenny saying that and we would take it just now if we could.

"But Aberdeen are going to battle all the way and so are Hearts yet again."

Celtic, who are yet to lose a game in the league this season, will again face Rangers in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup later in the month.
