AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella has played down talk that the Rossoneri will move to sign Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea in the winter transfer window.

Fabregas has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of former Italy coach Antonio Conte and is increasingly being linked with a move away from Chelsea in the new year.

AC Milan are claimed to be big fans of the Spaniard, but while Montella admits his side are looking for another midfielder, he insists their target is someone in the mould of Riccardo Montolivo.

And for that, Montella does not think Fabregas fits the bill.

He told Italian daily Corriere della Sera: "We are looking for a player who has the characteristics of Montolivo, who can also play in a midfield two.

"He [Fabregas] does not have those particular attributes", Montella added.

It remains to be seen whether AC Milan will choose to move for Fabregas, if Chelsea indicate they are willing to sell the former Barcelona star.

However, the Rossoneri appear not to be making a swoop for the Spaniard a priority.
