Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has insisted that he is targeting returning to first team action soon, while he also feels the club's fans have appreciated how he has coped with his current situation.

The Belgian international, who has made six appearances in all competitions for Reds this season, has been recently dislodged from the starting line-up by summer signing Loris Karius.

Liverpool brought in Karius from Mainz to provide competition for Mignolet, but the German injured his hand in pre-season.

As a result, Mignolet started the season between the sticks for Liverpool, but with Karius now fully fit, the former Sunderland custodian has lost his place in the first team.

The 28-year-old has been relegated to the bench by Karius for Liverpool’s last three matches in all competitions.

And Mignolet, who admitted that it hurts to sit on the bench, however, stated that he is willing to make the best of his current situation as he aims to reclaim his spot in the starting line-up.

“I’ve not played for two weeks, I don't intend to do that for too long”, he told Belgian daily Het Belang van Limburg.

“Every time I sit on the bench, it hurts. I want to play again as soon as possible.

“The key is to make the best of my current situation.

"My reaction has been positive and I have also been appreciated by the fans.”

Mignolet, who joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2013, has 17 caps for Belgium to his name.
