Gianluigi Buffon has come to the defence of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba by saying that his former Juventus team-mate should be judged at the end of the season.

Pogba, who joined Manchester United for a world record £89m in the summer, is yet to make his mark at Old Trafford.

The France international has thus far made eight appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring just once.

The 23-year-old is yet to fully showcase his talents which made him a superstar at Juventus, and hence has come in for criticism from several corners.

And Buffon is bemused with the criticism directed towards Pogba, with the Italy goalkeeper calling on the midfielder to be judged at the end of the campaign.

“The season is long, lasting 10-11 months and we’re only in the second”, he told RMC.

“Very often I smile because after just one month fingers are already being pointed at him saying he can no longer do what he has always done.

“There is still eight months to the end of the season and one can only evaluate at the end of the season.

"Remember, that you only see winning horses at the end."

Pogba, who knocked back a new contract offer at Manchester United and left for Juventus in 2012, amassed 178 appearances for the Italian giants, netting 34 times and setting up 43 goals.
