Chelsea youngster Lewis Baker thinks practice is paying off after he scored from a free-kick for Vitesse, something which has only added to his budding reputation in the Netherlands as a dead ball specialist.

Baker struck in the 23rd minute away at AZ Alkmaar, scoring Vitesse's first in a game they ultimately drew 2-2 to continue to sit two points behind their opponents in the Eredivisie and in sixth spot.

The midfielder now has five goals in nine Eredivisie games for Vitesse, while he has also scored in the Dutch Cup; he has scored four goals in his last four games and is on a hot goalscoring streak.

Baker is especially dangerous from free kicks and explained it is not by chance, with hours of work going in on the training pitch.

"As a kid I very often shot into the wall", he told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"Now I practice continuously on free kicks at Vitesse.

"It's paying off", Baker added.

The Chelsea man scored from a free kick into the right hand corner against AZ Alkmaar, while another free kick goal, against Groningen, went into the left hand corner – and he is delighted to be able to go both ways.

"So far, so good.

"It was beautiful that I shot into the left corner against Groningen and now into the right.

"It's nice. I want to be important for the team here and continue to grow.

"With my form, it's going well", Baker added.
