Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is wary of the test Borussia Monchengladbach will pose for his side in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga outfit head to Celtic Park on Wednesday evening to lock horns with the Scottish champions in a group stage game, as both sides look to battle to ensure European football after Christmas by finishing at least third.

Rodgers' side beat Motherwell 2-0 on Saturday, while Gladbach played out a 0-0 draw with Hamburg on the same day.

The Celtic manager believes Gladbach will give Celtic a different type of challenge, given they play a 3-4-3 system, while he also lauded the German side's tactical awareness, technical skill and youthful edge.

"They've been playing 3-4-3 so another test for us in every element of the game but one that we're really looking forward to", Rodgers told BBC Scotland.

Gladbach may have lost both their group games so far, but Rodgers thinks that is no reflection on their quality and added: "They're still a top, top side. It is easily the most difficult group.

"They're a team that are tactically good, technically very strong and with young players.

"They are very fast and dynamic but that's the level of the Champions League."

Gladbach have had a mixed start to the new season and sit in eighth spot in the Bundesliga with eleven points from seven games.

They lost their Champions League opener 4-0 at Manchester City, before then going down 2-1 at home to Barcelona in a game they had been leading in.
