Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris believes that Javier Hernandez should have scored for Bayer Leverkusen last night and admits that he got lucky with the save he made from the Mexican’s strike in the second half.

The north Londoners secured a point at the BayArena after the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, and Lloris’ heroic display in the Tottenham goal was crucial to their effort.

The Frenchman made some smart saves throughout the encounter to keep Tottenham in the game in Germany, but his most talked about save was from Hernandez’s 48th minute strike.

The Mexican was odds on favourite to open the scoring from two yards at the back post, but Lloris somehow kept the ball from crossing the line to leave Bayer Leverkusen in shock.

He admits that the striker should have buried the ball into the back of the net and feels he got lucky as it was not the cleanest of contacts from Hernandez, which helped him to hold on to the ball.

The Tottenham goalkeeper told Spurs TV: “He should have scored, that’s true.

“But when you’re a goalkeeper, you always need to believe because it’s true that the goal is very big and I’m not so tall.

“I needed to go quick, sometimes a striker can miss his kick, it was the case, and I was in a good position to react and then you need luck and everything.

“Sometimes you touch the ball, but it still goes in the goal. It stayed in my hands, so it’s good for me for sure, but it’s also good for the team.

“The save helped the team to stay in the game.”
