Chelsea Under-23 manager Adi Viveash has revealed that he is frustrated as he felt his side could have won their EFL Trophy game against Exeter City on Tuesday night.

The League Two team were leading by three clear goals at one point before ultimately winning the contest 3-2 after Chelsea mounted a comeback.

The young Blues lost their opening EFL Trophy game 2-1 to Swindon Town last month and since then have been winless in all competitions, losing four times and drawing just once.

However, Viveash insisted that he felt his side could have beaten Exeter both before the match and during the course of the game, even though Chelsea were trailing 3-0 by the 50th minute at St. James’ Park.

The manager, who admitted that his charges were duly punished by Exeter for their defensive lapses, went on to add that the match was decided in the opening 20 minutes rather than in the last 20 minutes, when his side pulled two goals back.

“The game was decided in the first 20 minutes, not in the last 20 minutes”, he told Chelsea TV.

“I’m frustrated because I felt this was a game we could come and win, and it actually sounds stupid when you’re 3-0 down, but I think it was a game we could have won.

“Yes, we got duly punished at times.”

Viveash’s side went into the Exeter game on the back of a goalless draw against Leicester City earlier in the month.
