Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits that goalkeeper Loris Karius still has a lot to improve upon, but has been happy with his performances thus far.

The Reds snapped up the German goalkeeper from Mainz in the summer and only a hand injury stopped him from replacing Simon Mignolet as the club’s first choice at the start of the season.

However, Karius eventually took the Belgian’s place between the sticks a few weeks ago and it seems the Liverpool manager is ready to stick with his compatriot in goal for the time being.

Klopp has been happy with the start the 23-year-old German has made for Liverpool and while he admits there have been a few heart-in-mouth moments from Karius this season, he is confident about his talent.

However, the Liverpool boss was quick to add that the German goalkeeper still has things to work upon in his game and further improve.

When asked about Karius’ showings thus far, Klopp said in a press conference: “It’s a very good start, that’s how it is. We watched him for a long time, last two years he was outstanding.

“He is still very young for a goalkeeper, but it’s about collecting experience.

"It was not perfect, there was one situation [against Manchester United) but you take that risk as a goalkeeper when you are playing.

“He has to improve and he can improve, but I feel quite confident.

"Everything is good.”

The 23-year-old is expected to retain his place in the team when Liverpool host West Brom at Anfield on Saturday.
