Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that he has been impressed with Joel Matip’s performances, with the Englishman explaining that it feels as if the new signing has been playing for the club for a long time.

Matip, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer, has thus far made eight appearances in all competitions for the Reds.

The Cameroon international has struck up a solid partnership with Dejan Lovren at the heart of the Liverpool’s defence and helped the Merseyside giants to keep their first clean sheet in the Premier League this season in their goalless draw with Manchester United on Monday night.

And Clyne, who feels Matip has settled at Liverpool well, praised the centre-back’s ability on the ball, which regularly sees him joining in attacks.

“He’s done really well”, Clyne was quoted as saying by the club’s official site.

“He’s settled in like he’s been playing for Liverpool for a really long time. He’s built a good partnership and has done really well defensively.

“He’s confident on the ball, you see him driving forward from defence and helping to set up attacks. He’s good and I like playing with him.

“He is not fazed by anything. He is putting in good performances and long may they continue.”

Matip, who amassed 258 appearances for Schalke after progressing through the club’s youth system, also has 27 caps for Cameroon to his name.
