Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn believes that Pablo Hernandez's current style of play at Elland Road is more suited to La Liga than the Championship.

While Leeds fans delighted when Hernandez joined the club on loan from Al-Arabi in the summer transfer window, the Spaniard's performances have so far been mixed.

Redfearn thinks that Hernandez is not doing what a number 10 behind Chris Wood should, arguing the Spaniard often gets involved in play further down the pitch when he should be concentrating on supporting the New Zealander.

"As much as Hernandez is a real quality player, if you look at the type of game he plays, it's suited to La Liga", the former Leeds boss said on Radio Yorkshire.

"He goes and gets involved in stuff he perhaps would have done in Spain", he continued.

"My feeling about Pablo Hernandez is that every time that ball goes in to Chris Wood, he has got to be able to find Pablo Hernandez.

"He's [Hernandez] got to be in his boots with him [Wood], he's got to be around him, he's got to be making little runs beyond him.

"When Chris Wood goes up to challenge and flicks stuff on, it's got to be Hernandez that's gambling", Redfearn added.

"He is the 10. The 10 that plays up with your big man.

"What you don't want is your 10 getting involved in the little football stuff in midfield – you've got two midfield players doing that."

Current Leeds boss Garry Monk worked with Hernandez at Swansea City and was keen to bring in the 31-year-old, who he remains a big fan of.

Hernandez is on loan from Al-Arabi, but the Whites have an agreement to turn the move into a permanent switch when the transfer window opens again in January.

He spent last term on loan at Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
