Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has conceded that Stamford Bridge is no longer a lucky ground for him after last season.

Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge for the first time this Sunday after his sacking at Chelsea in December last year, when Manchester United take on Chelsea.

The Portuguese was unbeaten at Chelsea's home ground during his first stint as Blues boss and he lost the record in his second stint, but things turned ugly last season.

The then defending champions were dreadful under Mourinho and it finally led to his sacking in December – and Mourinho admits the Stamford Bridge is no longer a happy hunting ground for him.

Ahead of facing Chelsea as Inter Milan manager a few years ago, Mourinho said he was ‘always lucky at the Bridge’, but he conceded that it is no longer the same situation.

“When I played there with Inter, before that, I had never lost a match at Stamford Bridge because I had that [unbeaten] home record”, Mourinho was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

“Now, I lost already a few matches at the Bridge. Last season, I lost two or three matches so I cannot use the same words.

“Now, I lost there.”

Mourinho is expected to receive a warm reception from the Stamford Bridge faithful, who still have a special place in their heart for the club’s most successful manager.

He won three league titles, an FA Cup and three EFL Cups during his two stints as Chelsea manager.
