Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard has hailed the attacking display from his side in their 4-1 win against Fenerbahce on Thursday night and admits that the early goals helped them to dominate the game.

The game started off slowly, but after just half an hour Juan Mata was brought down inside the penalty box and Paul Pogba converted the resultant penalty. Anthony Martial won another penalty a few minutes later when he was tumbled off the ball when through on goal and the French forward duly converted the spot kick to double Manchester United’s advantage.

And the game was all but over when Pogba found the top right hand corner of Fenerbahce’s goal to score his second of the night and give Manchester United a three-goal cushion going into the break.

Lingard scored Manchester United’s fourth after the break and while Robin van Persie found the back of the net against his former side in the 83rd minute, it was little more than a consolation for the Turkish giants.

The Manchester United winger admits that the first half goals helped his side to settle in to their rhythm and he hailed the performance of the front four, who had the license to thrill.

Lingard told MUTV: “It was a solid performance from us.

“The early goals settled us down, it gave us the confidence to go on and score lot more goals, which we did and we dominated the game.

“With the front four we have, we pretty much have the license to go on and do whatever we want and we did cause their defence a lot of problems.”

The Red Devils moved up to second in their Europa League group table with the win and are level on points with leaders Feyenoord.

Manchester United will next travel to London on Sunday to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
