Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has explained that he has learnt a great deal both physically and mentally from his long-term injury layoff.

The 19-year-old is yet to feature for the Reds in the present campaign as he has been out of action for a year because of an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

And Gomez, who admitted that it has been a tough year from it, however, explained that he has grown from the injury.

“It has been a long year”, he told LFC TV.

“It has been tough. But it is all behind me – I’ve grown from it and learned a lot physically and mentally. Only good can come from it.”

Gomez, who joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015, stated that he is desperate to return to action.

The youngster went on to add that playing regularly for the Merseyside giants at the start of the last season has been the highlight of his Liverpool career thus far.

“That first period when I was playing”, he said, when asked about his highlight at Liverpool so far.

“Playing for Liverpool is such an honour.

"It was a great feeling and I just want to get back to doing that now.”

Gomez, who has thus far made seven appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, has been linked with a move away from Anfield in January, with Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town interested in snapping him up on loan.
