Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are hungry to go atop the Premier League table, even if temporarily, by beating Bournemouth on Saturday.

Spurs, who were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion last weekend, are currently third in the standings with 18 points from eight game.

Tottenham are just a point adrift of Manchester City and Arsenal, who occupy first and second spots in the league table respectively.

With the game against Bournemouth being an early kick-off on Saturday, Spurs could leapfrog the Gunners and the Citizens into the first place; Arsenal play Middlesbrough later in the day, with Manchester City locking horns with Southampton on Sunday.

And Pochettino insisted that his side are highly motivated going into the Bournemouth game as a win at Dean Court would see them occupy top spot, albeit momentarily.

“It has to be a big motivation for us to finish the game, take the three points and be on top of the table”, he said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“It’s impossible to play for a better place and because of that the atmosphere was very good on the training ground today [Thursday].

“Our players are very conscious about that and it’s a good opportunity to see us on top of the table but first we need to win the game.

“In front of us we have a very good team and a great manager like Eddie Howe. It will be a very tough game.”

Spurs, who drew 0-0 with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday night, are the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season.
