Arsene Wenger feels Mesut Ozil is at the right club and is hopeful of tying him down to a new long term contract with Arsenal.

The German playmaker has been an influential member of the squad since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and has again been in top form this season.

His current deal with Arsenal expires in 2018 and the north London giants have been in talks with the player’s representatives to offer him a new bumper contract, which could make him the club’s highest paid player ever.

Wenger admits that the club have been in touch with Ozil’s people over a new deal and is hopeful that the German will continue at Arsenal for the long term as he believes that the playmaker is at the right club.

When asked about a new deal for Ozil, the Frenchman said in a press conference: “We are in touch and that is our desire.
