Tommy Callaghan believes Celtic will start with a clean slate against Rangers on Sunday, despite thrashing them 5-1 in the season’s first Old Firm derby last month, but the Hoops legend has insisted that Brendan Rodgers’ team have nothing to fear in the Gers.

Celtic, who are aiming for their sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, will face Rangers at Hampden in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at the weekend.

The Bhoys mauled the Ibrox outfit 5-1 at Paradise in September in the first meeting between the two teams in the Scottish Premiership in four years; Rangers, who returned to the top flight this season, had to start life in the fourth tier, following their liquidation in 2012.

And Callaghan, who thinks Celtic’s recent 5-1 win over Rangers will have no bearing on the game at Hampden, however, explained that his former team have nothing to fear against the Ibrox outfit.

“It's a clean slate because it doesn't matter what you say about this game, Celtic-Rangers games are different”, Callaghan said on Celtic TV.

“I see nothing to fear against them and if they [the players] go about it the right way then we'll get another good result.”

Celtic were beaten by Rangers on penalties in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup last season.
