Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane admits that youngsters Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira do need support from the senior players, but is happy to see that the duo have the zeal to learn and get better.

O’Kane, who joined Leeds from Bournemouth this summer, is one of the senior players in Garry Monk’s squad and, alongside Liam Bridcutt, has become one of the lynchpins of the club’s midfield.

The young midfield duo of Phillips and Vieira on the other hand are still learning their trade and Ireland international admits that both sometimes make the wrong decisions on the ball.

O’Kane feels that like any other young players, both Phillips and Vieira will need the support of the senior pros from time to time, but the midfielder is happy that the duo are keen to listen and are ready to take any advice on board.

And he believes that kind of attitude in young players can only bode well for Leeds in the future.

The midfielder told TV Yorkshire when asked whether Phillips sometimes needs a boost of confidence from others in the squad: “At time he needs a little arm around him, him and Ronnie.

“There are times when they make decisions and you think it may be not the best decision to make, but in fairness to both of them, they have been willing to learn.

“There have been times I have gone to tell them after games, ‘you see that instance, maybe not the next time’ and in fairness to them, they have taken it on board.

“When you have people who are willing to learn, no matter what age they are, it’s good to have them around.

“And when it that’s the attitude, it can only improve the club as a whole.”
