Leeds United head coach Garry Monk feels that despite recent results his squad are not far off where they want to be in as a group.

After a run of good form last month, their performances have dipped over the last week and they have collected just one point from their last two league games against Derby County and Wigan Athletic respectively.

The recent slump in form has again brought forward questions about Leeds’ consistency, but Monk has insisted that despite a bad week, he feels his team are on the right track.

The Leeds head coach admits that though they want to win every game, his team are not too far away from the place they want to be in as a group and feels there have been constant improvements this season.

And he pointed out that Leeds’ competitive performances in recent weeks are a clear sign of progress for the club.

The Leeds boss said on LUTV: “We are competing very well.

“We are not far off, let’s not get carried away by anything. We want to win every game, but we are not far off.

“We have made big strides, the players are getting clearer and clearer in what they are doing and any setback that we have, we work even harder.

“We have to improve for sure, so we understand that as a group and of course I understand that as a manager.

“I still think we are competing very well, we are very much in there and we are competing in every game.

“We are close to being where we want to be, in terms of the league, and we will keep fighting for that.”

Leeds are next in action on Saturday afternoon when they play Wolves in an away Championship fixture.
