Neil Redfearn has called for Leeds United to be already planning for next season and pointed out that head coach Garry Monk's contract is due to expire next summer.

Monk has been praised for his work at Elland Road so far, despite the Whites hitting a bump in the road by picking up just one point from their last two Championship matches.

However, the former Swansea City manager only signed a one-year contract when he took over in the summer and Whites owner Massimo Cellino is renowned for quickly tiring of head coaches and choosing to make a change.

No head coach has yet finished a season under the Italian and been allowed to start another in charge, with Redfearn and Steve Evans both being shifted out in the summers of 2015 and 2016 respectively.

And Redfearn feels if Leeds are serious about progressing then they should already be thinking about the 2017/18 campaign.

"You should be thinking about your next two or three seasons – but that comes down to your owner and the people above, the people in charge", the former Leeds boss said on Radio Yorkshire.

"Your manager's got a year's contract.

"Now, he was obviously happy enough to take it, but where's the building, where's the planning in that?"

Leeds currently sit in 14th spot in the Championship after winning five of their opening 13 games, drawing two and losing six.
