Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts believes Victor Wanyama is playing so well he may well wrap up the Player of the Year award at White Hart Lane by Christmas.

Spurs snapped Wanyama up from fellow Premier League side Southampton in the summer transfer window and the energetic midfielder has wasted no time in establishing himself in north London under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wanyama was named in the starting eleven for Saturday's 0-0 draw away at Bournemouth and Roberts was once again impressed with his performance in the middle of the park.

The former Spurs star wrote on Twitter: "Victor Wanyama solid as a rock again.

"Way he is going [he] will win the Player of the Year by Christmas! Few big games coming now", Roberts added.

Next up for Spurs is a Tuesday night visit to Anfield to play Liverpool in the EFL Cup, before they then welcome Leicester City to White Hart Lane next Saturday.

They then welcome in November by hosting Bayer Leverkusen in a crucial Champions League group stage fixture.

And Spurs will hope Wanyama stays in top form throughout a tough period.
