Jason Cundy insists that Jose Mourinho could have signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for Chelsea, but chose to snub the Germany international and wait a year to snap up Cesc Fabregas instead.

Cundy, a former Chelsea defender, does not rate Ozil as world class and believes the German does not turn on the style when it matters most.

Ozil scored a hat-trick against Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League in midweek, but could not help Arsenal rise to the challenge against Middlesbrough on Saturday as the Premier League game ended 0-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

For Cundy, Ozil is an overrated player and the former Chelsea defender explained that Mourinho could have signed the German for the Blues if he wished.

Cundy wrote on Twitter: "Mourinho had the chance to sign him at CFC, but signed Fabregas a year later instead and he won the title!!
