Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels other than Newcastle United, all the other teams slugging it out in the Championship are more or less equal, meaning the Whites should be able to beat them, he thinks.

After a good month of September, the Whites’ form has slumped in the last week or so and they have collected just one point from their last two league games, against Derby County and Wigan respectively.

Currently 15th in the league table on 17 points, Leeds are still just four points off the top six and Gray admits that most of the teams in the Championship are more or less on a par in terms of quality.

He indicated that Newcastle, who sit top of the table with 28 points, should run away with the Championship title.

The Leeds United legend told LUTV: “You are looking at the league now and you look at Huddersfield getting beaten the other night at Preston.

“Sheffield Wednesday got a decent result away from home at Cardiff and they jumped up the table a bit.

“There are so many sides in the division who are equals and I think we can class ourselves in that bunch.

“Norwich should be disappointed to slip a two-goal lead [at Fulham] and looking at Newcastle United, the players that they have got, they should run away with it.

“But the other sides, including Wolves, are capable of beating most teams in the league, the same as Leeds United.”

Leeds have not gone close to challenging for promotion over the last few years and have been a lower mid-table side in the Championship.

Newcastle meanwhile are widely tipped to bounce straight back up the the Premier League under Champions League winning manager Rafael Benitez.
