Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino insists that he never forgets about his defensive responsibilities in spite of primarily being an attacking player.

The Brazilian, who joined the Reds at the start of last season under former manager Brendan Rodgers, has found his footing at Anfield under current boss Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino has become a key man in the system Klopp most likes to play and has been a success, with the 25-year-old scoring four goals in nine overall appearances so far and also setting up three more for his team-mates.

The player on his part insists that in spite of him largely sharing the attacking responsibilities, he can never ignore his role in the defence and he has a natural affinity towards both roles.

Firmino also took time to insist that he trains every day to be better in the position he is employed in by the manager, which involves him sharing both responsibilities.

“I train every day to be better in this position [a position that has both attacking and defensive responsibilities]”, Firmino told his club's official website.

“Any position in which I play, I will always do my best and strive to be better.

"I will always play with attacking intent in my position, but I am always looking to help my team-mates in any way I can.

“I am an attacker; however, I don’t forget about defending.

"It’s always in my mind to help my team-mates the best I can.

"I try to do both on the pitch – attacking and defending – never forgetting either responsibility.”
